£7.9m ''transformative'' bid for Newhaven town centre
Lewes District Council, with the support of Locate East Sussex, has submitted its final bid to government for £7.9million funding to help transform Newhaven town centre and create up to 200 jobs by 2024.
This very exciting programme is the culmination of nine months' work aimed at delivering a future vision of Newhaven town centre that residents and businesses want.

Future High Streets Fund
Last year, Newhaven was shortlisted for a share of the government's Future High Streets Fund aimed at renewing the country's high streets, and the council's proposal provides details of its programme called Re-imagining Newhaven.
Councillor James MacCleary, the cabinet member for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: "This very exciting programme is the culmination of nine months' work to deliver a future vision of Newhaven town centre that residents and businesses want. Our bid focuses on re-purposing derelict and under-used buildings as well as better integrating, diversifying and strengthening the town centre, so that it offers a wide range of services that will attract more people there for longer periods."

A decision on the bid is expected later this year.
This bid is the latest step in Lewes District Council's regeneration plans for the town, following the designation of Newhaven as an Enterprise Zone in 2017.
