Locate East Sussex helps to drive economy recovery

Bringing a new wave of companies to East Sussex and helping companies already here to grow into larger premises is a critical element of ‘East Sussex Reset’, the report launched by Team East Sussex that sets out how investment will be used to support businesses hit by the global pandemic over the coming years.

With contributions from over 50 partner organisations representing business, education and local government, East Sussex Reset identifies a number of ‘missions’ which will stimulate economic growth across the county. Key amongst these missions is ‘Thinking local, acting local’ which highlights the importance of inward investment.

Locate East Sussex was a key contributor to East Sussex Reset and will play a critical role as the local economy responds to Covid-19. In the past three years, Locate East Sussex has supported 42 companies that have moved into East Sussex and a further 66 East Sussex-based businesses that have expanded into larger premises.

Philip Johnson, Director of Locate East Sussex commented:

In the past three years, Locate East Sussex has helped over 100 companies to move into East Sussex or expand their premises here. We know the pandemic will make things harder, but we will redouble our efforts so that everybody can benefit from the jobs and prosperity that inward investment will bring.

One such project is the Hastings Observer Building, which has recently been allocated funding from the Getting Building Fund, and recently attained planning permission from Hastings Borough Council for extensive work on the site to bring local transformation and investment in the community.

The six missions in East Sussex Reset are:

Mission 1 – ‘Thinking local, acting local’ encourages the use of local suppliers to source locally produced goods and services, and highlights the need for inward investment and sources of business support;

Mission 2 – ‘Building skills, creating jobs’ looks at how companies can be supported to create jobs and continue to build skills, and importantly, highlights the need to support inward investment;

Mission 3 – ‘Fast forwarding business’, highlights the need to support the recovery of the leisure, tourism, hospitality and cultural sectors;

Mission 4 – ‘Better places, fuller lives’ looks at the need to encourage local engagement and diversity, and improve and adapt public spaces including our high streets;

Mission 5 – ‘Cleaner energy, greener transport’ supports the drive towards a low-carbon and greener transport economy;

Mission 6 – ‘The future is digital’ emphasises the importance of capitalising on digital connectivity.
