What 2021 meant for East Sussex Business

During a year that could just as easily make or break a business we have been delighted to see and be integral to so many positive advancements for many businesses across East Sussex.

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on 2021 and what it has meant for East Sussex Businesses

Thanks to government-supported schemes such as the Recovery Loan Scheme (RLS) alongside our very own East Sussex Invest7 (ESI) loan and grant scheme funded by East Sussex County Council, businesses have been able to access support to continue with their growth plans, aiding the local economy and creating jobs.

We have had the pleasure of handling 172 enquiries, supporting 370 businesses, and playing a part in the creation of 95 jobs this year. These included new businesses such as Heist, Lightning Fibre, Jeavons Toffee, and The Ordinary Climbers, and established companies such as Knoops, Brewing Brothers, The English Soap Company, and Cadence. Our advice has helped to safeguard a number of jobs and through ESI has assisted businesses to access £167,000 of grants and  383,525 of loans this year.

This is just a small selection, but these examples of thriving businesses showcase not only the diversity across the county, but also the supportive and dynamic economic environment in East Sussex.

Locate East Sussex Service Director Brett Pearson commented:

“2021 has continued to be a difficult time for businesses with BREXIT and ongoing COVID restrictions impacting everything from supply chains to staffing issues. Despite this backdrop, East Sussex businesses have continued to thrive in the main as Locate East Sussex has continued to support them through the year and help them navigate through the challenges faced. We are fortunate to live and work in a County that is attracting substantial investment both from resident growing businesses and inward investment relocations. One thing COVID has highlighted is the need for flexible working and because of that, workforces can be based outside of the major cities, which has benefited the County immensely as the life/work balance is becoming more important. Given the conversations we are having with clients, developers, and agents, we are confident that 2022 will continue to allow East Sussex to thrive and grow and become an even better place to live with a fantastic life/work balance for us all.”
