Platform Business Centre achieves full occupancy

The first phase of Platform Business Centre in Haywood Way, Hastings, has been recently completed, welcoming 10 new businesses and setting the standard for the future development of industrial and warehousing development in Hastings.

Owned by Hayland Properties Ltd, who have been trading for 30 years, this newly built business centre, is the first phase in a long list of planned developments in the area, bringing this commercial estate into the 21st century.

Receiving support from East Sussex County Council’s ‘Stalled Sites Fund’ and ‘Incubator Fund’ this development of 10 units, was completed in August 2021, providing 1200 sq ft of ground floor space in each unit (some also have mezzanine floors), all adaptable to be utilised for workshop, warehouse or office uses.

Developer Giles Haywood from Hayland Properties has commented:

“We’ve tried to deliver a scheme to address the shortage of modern, good quality light industrial and warehouse space in the Hastings area. There is a lack of such space for small businesses and the units have been designed as flexibly as possible to suit a variety of different users.”

This mission statement is clear by the eclectic mix of businesses occupying the centre. From electrical contractors and facilities managers to a gin distillery and a company specialising in converting commercial vehicles to campervans.

Unit 5 Movers of Sussex (storage and removals)
Unit 6 Titanium Security Solutions (security and facilities management)
Unit 7 Nowy UK (trade sale of car detailing products)
Unit 8 Project Yonder (conversion of vans etc into caravans/ mobile homes)
Unit 9 Brighton Group (sale and distribution of high end mens shaving products and accessories)
Unit 10 Rainbow Chaser t/a 1066 Gin (gin distillery and distribution)
Unit 11 Nexus (fit out contractor to retail and restaurant sector)
Unit 12 Kate MacGarry (Hastings based artist - storage)
Unit 13 Coastal Kitchen Cleans (air conditioning and kitchen extraction repairs)
Unit 14 CB Electrical (electrical contractors)

Work has now begun on Phase 2 of the development, which will comprise of four units totaling 8,500 sq ft (two units of 2750 sq ft and two units of 1500 sq ft, all with the ability for mezzanine floors) which are due for completion in Spring 2022.

Hayland Properties has detailed planning permission for future phases following this, totalling 30,000 sq ft. It is also working up a planning application for another 10,000 sq ft for a scheme known as Werkspace @ The Ridge.

Giles Haywood commented:

"The intention is to create a business community for small Hastings enterprises which will have the added benefit of being surrounded by woodland and green space. Future phases have been designed to provide bigger units to either attract larger occupiers or help the existing ones, who are now establishing themselves on the estate, to develop and grow as their businesses expand."
